Coquille Tribe Gives the Gift of Joy

The Coquille Indian Tribe, longtime and generous supporters of Asante, gave the gift of joy to two pediatric patients this holiday season.

Patients Rikki and Sophia, two three-year-old Leukemia patients at Asante, have been through a lot this past year and their families welcomed the Coquille Tribe’s gift of two custom-designed kids’ electric jeep vehicles.

Rikki wanted a car decorated with Paw Patrol characters and Disney Princesses, while Sophia requested one featuring animals and her favorite colors of red and orange. Both were excited to start driving but Sophia opted to wait until she was on more familiar territory at home.

The Coquille Indian Tribe raised their paddle for $24,000 this past summer at the Oregon Wine Experience (OWE), an annual charitable wine event benefitting children’s health at Asante, to secure the privilege of giving such a special gift to two pediatric patients. The Tribe has been a sponsor of OWE since 2015 and has given over $120,000 total to improve local children’s healthcare programs at Asante.

The Tribe’s gift of $24,000 will help build the new Olsrud Family Women’s and Children’s Hospital at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center that will completely elevate the level of patient care. More patient rooms, larger spaces and dedicated areas for children and families to regroup and feel at home. Most importantly, this new addition to Asante will allow the health system to continue to grow these departments and respond to what our community needs.

Asante is incredibly grateful for the Coquille Tribe’s generosity and support of local children and families – thank you for helping us make miracles possible!
